What happens if I add a claim to an access token?

When adding claims to the access token, the claims apply to access tokens requested for the application (a web API), not claims requested by the application. No matter how the client accesses your API, the right data is present in the access token that is used to authenticate against your API.

What is a claim in a SAML token?

These SAML tokens contain pieces of information about the user known as claims. A claim is information that an identity provider states about a user inside the token they issue for that user. In a SAML token, claims data is typically contained in the SAML Attribute Statement.

What is username claim in V1 tokens?

Provides the preferred username claim within v1 tokens. This claim makes it easier for apps to provide username hints and show human readable display names, regardless of their token type. It's recommended that you use this optional claim instead of using, for example, upn or unique_name.

What are ID tokens?

ID tokens are JSON web tokens (JWT). These ID tokens consist of a header, payload, and signature. The header and signature are used to verify the authenticity of the token, while the payload contains the information about the user requested by your client. The v1.0 and v2.0 ID tokens have differences in the information they carry.
